President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja, the capital city, after completing a nearly two-week diplomatic tour of Japan and Brazil.
According to a statement released by his Senior Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president touched down at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at exactly 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, where he was welcomed by senior government officials.
Tinubu initially departed Nigeria for Japan to take part in the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9). From there, he traveled to Brazil with the goal of strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
During his stay in Brazil, both countries signed five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), addressing areas such as agriculture, energy, and security.
The statement noted that the presidential aircraft departed from Brasília International Airport’s Air Force Base at 12:57 p.m. local time.
Present at the airport to see the president off were Brazil’s Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, and the Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete. Also in attendance were Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other dignitaries.
