The Tor Tiv, Professor James Ayatse, has issued a 48-hour deadline to traditional rulers in Benue State’s Konshisha and Gwer East Local Government Areas, urging them to expel militias and contract killers believed to be involved in the long-running Ugambe–Mbaiase conflict.

Delivering the warning at his palace in Gboko after meeting with local leaders and council heads, Ayatse through his Special Assistant on Media and ICT, Freddie Adamgbe cautioned community heads against sheltering armed individuals. He emphasized that offering refuge to such groups only intensifies the violence and threatens regional stability.

Community representatives at the gathering attributed the unrest to unresolved land disputes that have lingered for years.

The traditional ruler called for a revival of the Tiv people’s traditional values of harmony and unity. He specifically instructed the Mue Ter of both Shangev Tiev and Masev districts to take swift action in removing all armed elements from their domains.

Ayatse also appealed to the state government to accelerate the boundary demarcation process between Ugambe and Mbaiase, describing it as a critical step toward lasting peace.

Local council chairmen and chiefs present at the meeting expressed support for the monarch’s directive and committed to enforcing measures aimed at ending the conflict.
