Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of Grace Nation International (also known as Liberation City), has temporarily stood down from the pulpit.
The development occurred amid calls for the pastor to resign from his pastoral duties and leadership position in the church following a romance scandal involving actress Doris Ogala.
However, it is unclear whether the decision is related to the romance controversy and the resulting claims against the cleric.
Chris Okafor announced the news at the New Year’s service on Thursday, asking four pastors beneath him to take over for the month of January 2026.
“We have four Sundays in January, so, in the whole of these four Sundays, we would be having Pastor Sylvester, Pastor Kelvin, Pastor Oliver, and Shadrach minister to you and anoint you every Sunday because it’s going to be prophetic Sundays.
“So, they will be here. While they are here, I will be resting, and it will be time for a personal retreat with God and time for me and my wife to rest because since our wedding we have not rested, we’ve not had time, we have not even done honeymoon,” the clergyman said.
Remember, the scandal began when a video of the preacher engaging his younger partner appeared online.
Additional women, including actress Doris Ogala, accused him of promising them marriage and sexual encounters after the engagement.
Despite the commotion, Okafor married his new bride in a different church when actress Ogala threatened to disrupt the ceremony.
