Isa Pantami, the former Minister of Communication, has refuted the claim that he stated politics is evil (haram).

Pantami issued this rebuttal on Friday in a BBC Hausa interview.

He stated that the reason for his involvement in politics is to provide good governance for both his people and Nigeria as a whole.

“I never said politics is haram.

“I have been a registered APC member since 2019. It’s in the Nigerian constitution that you can’t be a minister if you’re not registered with a political party,” he said.

Pantami served as the Minister of Communication under the administration of Muhammadu Buhari, who later became a former president.

In a recent interview, the former minister had urged Northern elites to focus on strategic investments in the media industry rather than in mosques.

This was while he cautioned that years of insufficient investment have led to what he termed a “dangerous communication deficit.”
