Ibrahim Oseni, a 25-year-old labourer, has allegedly murdered his cousin Hassan Suleiman, aged 18, in Edo State amid ongoing disputes.
ZINGTIE collected information indicating that the two individuals from Katsina State had unresolved disputes in their hometown in Katsina as of 2025.
Though he was apprehended by members of the Edo State Security Corps, Ibrahim Oseni purportedly admitted to committing the offense.
Richard Balogun, the Deputy Commander of Operations for the Corps, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect has been transferred to the Ugo Divisional Police headquarters along with recovered exhibits for further investigation and prosecution.
Balogun stated that the event occurred on February 19, 2026, within the Evbuoarue community of Orhionmwon Local Government Area in the State.
He stated that the suspect was apprehended by operatives from the Evbuoarue unit of the Igbae Sector Command after a distress report about a murder in a bush within the community.
He stated that the suspect purportedly carried out the act as revenge for a disagreement he had with the deceased while they were both in Katsina State in 2025.
He stated that the suspect had a disagreement with the deceased, who was also his cousin, in distant Katsina State in late 2025.
“They both resolved the issue and came to Benin city together for normal daily commercial activities, but unknown to the deceased, his cousin did not let the matter go.
“While at the Evbuoarue community, the village where they both do menial jobs, the suspect asked the deceased to take him to a farm road with his motorcycle to get some herbs for his stomach upset.
“The deceased who never knew that would be his last on earth embarked on the journey. On getting to the farm road, the suspect immediately brought out a cutlass and cut off his head.
“He immediately collected his mobile phone, the sum of N36, 000 cash and then escaped to an unknown destination while the deceased was declared missing by his associates in Evbuoarue”, he said.
He claimed that the suspect sent a portion of the N36,000 to his relatives in Katsina.
The cutlass that the suspect used to behead his cousin was discovered under his sleeping mat, according to the ESSC Deputy Commander, Operation.
Balogun further mentioned that the suspect had taken the deceased’s phone, which was subsequently found at the location where he concealed it.
The suspect was also reported to have informed his community members about the deceased’s death.
It was claimed that he had brought the people to the location, but doubts were raised regarding how he became aware of both the event and the location.
It was suspected that they informed the operatives of the Edo State Security Corps, leading to his arrest.
