Joleon Lescott, a former defender for Manchester City, has made predictions about a potential encounter between Arsenal and Barcelona in this season’s Champions League semi-finals.

If both teams win their quarter-final matches against Sporting CP and Atletico Madrid, respectively, they will face each other in the Champions League semi-finals.

After Arsenal triumphed over Bayer Leverkusen in the Round of 16, they established a quarter-final matchup against Sporting CP, scheduled for April.

Meanwhile, Barcelona triumphed over Newcastle United, a Premier League team, thereby arranging a quarter-final matchup against their LaLiga counterparts Atletico Madrid.

In an interview with TNT Sports, Lescott forecasted that Arsenal would present Barcelona with numerous ‘problems’ if the two teams faced off in the semifinals, mirroring their encounter in the 2006 Champions League final.

When asked to assess Barcelona’s chances of winning this season’s Champions League, Lescott replied, “I would not say so just because of the way they defend.

“I think a more compact team like Arsenal, and with the offensive talent that they have, I think will cause Barca a lot of problems because I still think there are frailties in their defensive line.

“But yes, when they play like this, especially as long as it is two legs, and how exciting they are and how dominant they are at home, they have got a chance.”
