Former chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board, Mohammed Bawa Niworo, has regained his freedom after spending eight months in captivity.
The All Progressives Congress chieftain was abducted around September last year along the New Bussa-Mokwa road near IBB University in Borgu Local Government Area.
According to reports, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N150 million.
The family reportedly paid N30 million in December, but he was not released.
Reports further indicated that the kidnappers later reduced their demand and threatened to kill him because of his deteriorating health condition.
Details surrounding his release were still unavailable as of the time of filing this report.
