Arsenal on Saturday set an unwanted record following their defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final.
Recall that Luis Enrique’s men overcame the Gunners via penalty shoot-out after both sides settled for a 1-1 draw at the end of 120 minutes.
Kai Havertz and Ousmane Dembele scored the goals during normal regulation time.
However, according to OptaJoe, Arsenal still holds the record for the highest number of matches played (226) in Champions League history without winning the competition.
The statistic follows the club’s defeats in the 2006 and 2026 finals, extending their wait for a first European crown.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s average possession of 24.7% was recorded as the lowest by any team in a Champions League final since the 2003-04 season.
It also marked the lowest possession recorded by Mikel Arteta’s side in any match where they had 11 players on the pitch throughout the encounter.
