The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has indicated its readiness to engage in coalition talks with other opposition political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party, however, expressed confidence that any future alliance arrangement would ultimately support the candidates presented by the NDC.
National leader of the party, Seriake Dickson, made the disclosure during an appearance on Channels Television’s programme, Sunday Politics.
“As an opposition leader, we will be open. Our party, the NDC, will be open to conversations within that space,” he said.
The former Bayelsa State governor noted that it would be premature for him or any other party figure to speculate on the outcome of such discussions.
He, however, expressed optimism that any political engagements or negotiations among opposition groups would eventually result in support for the NDC’s flag bearers.
Dickson, who currently represents Bayelsa in the Senate, stated that his comments should not be interpreted as a claim of superiority over other political parties.
According to him, once the process of candidate nominations is concluded, political actors would naturally move into another phase of consultations and negotiations.
The party’s position comes at a time when the NDC is confronting legal challenges following a recent ruling by a Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The court had earlier nullified its previous judgment that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.
