Former media aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu could be denied entry into the United States or refused a meeting with US President Donald Trump.

Ahmad described such suggestions as irresponsible, arguing that there was no basis for claims that Tinubu would be prevented from accessing the US or meeting the American president.

The former presidential aide also maintained that Tinubu would not be embarrassed during the forthcoming United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The 2026 UN General Assembly is scheduled to take place from September 8 to 28.

Ahmad was reacting to comments attributed to US lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague York, which reportedly claimed that Tinubu could travel to the United States without facing prosecution over allegations of drug trafficking.

In a post shared on X, Ahmad wrote: “This is just a political attack dressed up as certainty.

“President Bola Tinubu is the democratically elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and allegations, however loudly repeated are not convictions.

“Serious accusations should be tested against credible evidence and due process, not presented as facts simply because they fit a particular political narrative.

“It is equally irresponsible to declare, in advance, that President Donald Trump will refuse to meet President Tinubu or that the Nigerian President will be embarrassed at the United Nations.”
