The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM) has provided a fresh update on the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly known as cooking gas, in Nigeria.
The President of NALPGAM, Edu Inyang, said on Thursday that although the supply of cooking gas has improved across the country, prices have not declined as many Nigerians had anticipated.
The price of cooking gas currently ranges between N1,450 and N1,700 per kilogram in Abuja and its surrounding areas, compared to about N1,200 per kilogram recorded in May 2026.
Speaking on the current pricing situation, Edu said the Federal Government’s intervention introduced in June 2026 has succeeded in improving product availability, but prices have remained “stubbornly high.”
According to him, consumers have yet to benefit from lower LPG prices due to sustained high international market prices, foreign exchange challenges and other prevailing factors.
“The immediate impact has been greater product availability rather than lower prices.
“LPG retail prices remain stubbornly high. While prices have stopped escalating at the previous pace, consumers are yet to experience meaningful relief because international LPG prices remain elevated, foreign exchange costs continue to increase import expenses, transportation and inland distribution costs remain high, domestic production is still insufficient to fully satisfy national demand, and market competition has not yet driven prices downward,” he stated.
