Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, VDM, has alleged that some government officials are using roaming cattle as a channel to launder and divert public funds.
VDM made the allegation on Tuesday while speaking at the 2026 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The activist claimed that certain public officials are involved in the alleged practice because many Nigerians are unaware of the method supposedly being used to move government resources.
According to him, the cattle business has allegedly become a means through which some officials conceal and misappropriate public funds.
The self-acclaimed online soldier maintained that the alleged scheme continues to operate largely because the public remains unaware of how the cattle trade could be connected to the diversion of government resources.
He said, “If you go around our country, you will see cows moving around in the street and will be wondering why so many cows are moving like that.
“You know why? That is money laundering. It is the government. A fat cow today is sold at about N2 million and if you see one Aboki man going around with about 500 cows, that is one billion naira.
“The money that is being stolen from the government by government officials are put in the cow business. One thousand cows give them two billion naira.
“The government won’t tell the Fulani to stay in one place as ranching because that is their investment.”
