The Nasarawa State Police Command has taken into custody a 30-year-old man, Musbawu Amodu, for allegedly killing his 20-year-old wife after she reportedly declined to prepare a meal at their residence in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Sunday, stating that the suspect was arrested after police received a report that he had assaulted his wife, who later succumbed to the injuries she sustained.

According to Nansel, the suspect admitted during questioning that he attacked his wife after becoming upset over her alleged refusal to cook.

“The suspect confessed to committing the act out of anger after the deceased allegedly refused to prepare food. An argument ensued, which escalated into a physical altercation that ultimately resulted in her death.” Nansel said.

Police said the couple had been married for six years and were blessed with two children, a boy and a girl.

The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shettima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered that the matter be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for a comprehensive and speedy investigation.

He assured members of the public that justice would take its course, adding that the suspect would be arraigned in court after the investigation is completed.
