Team Nigeria’s Ruth Nyong secured a silver medal in the women’s 48kg weightlifting event at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games, ZINGTIE reports.

Nyong earned her place on the podium after recording a combined lift of 168kg.

India’s Mirabai Chanu Saikhom captured the gold medal with a Commonwealth Games record total of 190kg, while Malaysia’s Irene Jane Henry claimed bronze after lifting 167kg.

Jo-Beth Deireragea finished in fourth position with a total of 161kg, while Tammy Wong placed fifth after recording 160kg. Nikole Roberts ended the event in sixth with 154kg, Alex Mackay finished seventh on 142kg, while Janet Atieno Oduor came eighth with a total lift of 133kg.

With the latest result, Team Nigeria has now accumulated seven medals at the ongoing Games in Glasgow.

The Nigerian contingent has so far won three gold medals and four silver medals.

The team will be aiming to boost its medal haul further, with several events still scheduled to take place later tonight.
