The Nigeria Police Force has rescued two Colombian women who were allegedly deceived into travelling to Nigeria by a human trafficking syndicate and subsequently held captive in Lagos.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.

He said the rescue followed intelligence received by the National Central Bureau (NCB)-INTERPOL, Lagos Annex, on August 26, 2026, concerning the location of the two victims.

The women were identified as Maria Camila Rodas Ortiz and Yuliet Fernanda Rios Mesa, both Colombian nationals.

Iniedu said the victims were tricked into coming to Nigeria, where suspected Chinese nationals allegedly held them against their will and confiscated their travel documents.

“The victims were fraudulently lured to Nigeria, held against their will, and had their travel documents confiscated by certain Chinese nationals who are currently at large,” he said.

He said following receipt of the intelligence, police operatives immediately commenced a covert operation that led them to the Lagos hideout where the women were being kept.

According to the police spokesperson, the victims were successfully rescued the same day, while the suspects escaped after becoming aware of the approaching officers.

He said the police had intensified efforts to locate and apprehend all individuals linked to the trafficking network.

Iniedu added that the rescued women are currently in safe custody and receiving the required assistance.

He further stated that the Colombian Embassy in Accra was collaborating with INTERPOL to secure hotel accommodation for the victims and obtain emergency travel documents to facilitate their safe return to Bogotá.
