There is growing uncertainty over where the proposed heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will take place, with London and New York emerging as the leading options.

The potential venue has become a major point of contention as organisers weigh plans for the highly anticipated clash between the two British boxers.

On Thursday, London Mayor Sadiq Khan reiterated his desire to see the bout staged at Wembley Stadium.

Khan also called on the promoters to engage with the city’s authorities over plans to bring the much-anticipated contest to the national stadium.

“A message to the promoters: We want to host it in London. Talk to us; we are really keen to have it,” Khan told BBC Sport.
“Wembley has hosted many fantastic events, including bouts involving Tyson and Anthony. We, the fans, want to see them box live in London.”

However, organisers and broadcaster Netflix are reportedly favouring Madison Square Garden in New York for a potential November date.

BBC Sport reports that discussions over a London venue have stalled, with sources familiar with the negotiations indicating that there have been no firm talks regarding dates or scheduling.

The location for the blockbuster encounter is expected to be settled soon, with Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, reportedly pushing for an announcement this week.

A press conference is also scheduled to take place next week as preparations for the proposed fight continue.
