The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has urged the Federal Government to fully deploy all available security forces to halt the ongoing violence in Benue State.

Leaders from the northern region voiced serious alarm over a recent assault in Yelewata community, which resulted in the loss of numerous lives.

In a message delivered by the Forum’s spokesperson, Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, condolences were extended to the people of Yelewata, the Government of Benue State, and Nigerians at large, with prayers offered for the victims.

Professor Muhammad-Baba firmly stated that the ACF strongly condemns the persistent and senseless killings, which have been ongoing for an unacceptable length of time.

He lamented that the situation continues to resist resolution, even in the face of efforts from security forces under the Federal Government’s control.

He said, “That the Yelewata tragedy would take place within days of the COAS’s relocation clearly illustrates that prevailing curtailment strategy must therefore be reviewed, to frontally confront the discomfiting regime of terrorism, insurgencies, banditry, communal conflicts, etc, however labelled.

“Proactive measures, including vigilance, improved intelligence gathering must be the crucial ingredients of new curtailment strategies against the recurring cycle of senseless violence.”

The ACF also appealed to residents in Benue and other conflict-ridden areas to turn away from narratives of hatred, suspicion, and anger—urging instead a shift toward compassion, mutual understanding, collaboration, and healing.

Additionally, the Forum called on both the Federal and Benue State governments to urgently supply sufficient relief assistance to the affected residents of Yelewata and surrounding areas.

The spokesman stressed that continued lawlessness cannot be tolerated and insisted that individuals responsible for the violence must be brought to justice.
