AFCON 2023: Peseiro out of contract after Super Eagles’ defeat to Ivory Coast

Jose Peseiro, the head coach of the Super Eagles, will not have a contract beyond the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Nigeria Football Federation, or NFF, and Peseiro inked a new deal last year.

The agreement was only temporary.

The sixty-three-year-old signed a six-month deal that ended after the AFCON.

A crucial provision in the agreement required Peseiro to attend the AFCON semifinals.

Beyond that, the Portuguese guided the Eagles to the championship game, when they were defeated 2-1 by the Ivory Coast hosts.

With the tournament over, it’s still being determined what action the NFF will take about Peseiro’s future.
