Former Sweden striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, has urged Argentina’s players to do more in supporting their captain, Lionel Messi, on the pitch.
Ibrahimovic made the remarks while speaking on Fox Sports after Argentina’s 3-2 victory over Egypt in their FIFA World Cup Round of 16 clash on Tuesday.
Yasser Ibrahim and Mostafa Zico had given the North Africans the advantage before goals from Messi, Cristian Romero and Enzo Fernandez completed the comeback and secured Lionel Scaloni’s side a place in the World Cup quarter-finals.
“If I have to be a little bit critical, his [Messi’s] teammates need to step it up and also help him because he has been on another level,” Ibrahimovic said of Messi.
“If he can carry on and bring it all the way to the final and really take the final pieces. We will not be surprised, but he needs help to be fair.”
