According to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, an investigation has been launched into the alleged murder of Mr. Udeme Sunday Uko, 45, inside a church in the state’s Ukanafun Local Government Area.
The victim was discovered in a pool of blood while resting inside the church with his family, according to a statement released on Wednesday by DSP Timfon John, the Command Public Relations Officer.
According to John, a preliminary report indicates that the incident happened at around 12:10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
According to her, “The victim, his wife, and children were sleeping at a church in Ikot Oku Usung village when a gunshot was heard in the church and later Mr. Uko was discovered to have been shot on his head, suggesting either a suicide or an attack from enemies. Investigation will soon reveal.
“The Command was alerted to the incident by concerned citizens who received the report from the victim’s wife.
“Upon receiving the information, a team of police officers was immediately dispatched to the scene of the crime. During the visit, a locally made pistol was recovered as an exhibit. The corpse of the deceased has since been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.”
According to her, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, the Commissioner of Police, has ordered a comprehensive and prompt inquiry to be carried out in order to catch the perpetrators.
She added that the inquiry is still underway and that the public would be informed of any new information as it becomes available.
