On Thursday, Ondo State Security Network Agency, also called Amotekun Corps, announced that it had foiled a seven-member gang of suspected criminals in the state from carrying out a bank robbery plot.
This was disclosed by the corps commander, Adetunji Adeleye, at the corps’ headquarters in the state capital of Akure, Alagbaka, as he paraded 37 individuals suspected of various crimes throughout the state.
He claimed that six gang members had entered the state illegally from Delta State to carry out their evil plans.
Adeleye claimed that after receiving information, the corps thwarted the plot, and one gang member was arrested in the state while the others were able to escape.
The Amotekun boss claimed that the 35-year-old gang leader Fatai Bami’s confession revealed that the accused had already plotted the attack on three banks in Ore, the state’s Odigbo Local Council Area. He continued by saying that the gang had plans to abduct the proprietor of a well-known grocery in the business centre.
According to Adeleye, one of the gang members had contacted a grocery employee in an attempt to entice him to join the operation.
He told his boss about the plot when the crew rejected the overture.
“The seven-man gang came from Sapele, Delta State, for kidnapping and robbery of a bank in Irele LGA. Six of them are at large, but we were able to apprehend the mastermind who accommodated the robbers. We were equally able to get to the root of the target that they intended to kidnap,” he said.
