Godfatherism in Anambra State has been outlawed by Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) candidate for governor.

Following his announcement as the APC’s candidate for governor in the run-up to the election, Ukachukwu stated that he no longer wanted to be a godfather but rather a parent.

At the Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Center in Awka, the businessman and real estate tycoon was proclaimed the victor of the party’s primary election.

Ukachukwu was proclaimed the victor on Sunday morning, despite the fact that the exercise was scheduled for Saturday.

Due to anomalies, Sir Paul Chukwuma, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, and Hon. Chuma Umeoji—three party candidates for the primary election—withdrew from the contest.

Ukachukwu entered the competition alongside Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, Engr Johnbosco Onunkwo and Hon Edozie Madu.

Cross Rivers State Governor and Chief Returning Officer Mr. Bassey Otu announced the results, stating that Ukachukwu had received 1,455 votes out of 1,630 total.

John Bosco Onunkwo received 26 votes, while Mr. Val Ozigbo received 67. With eight votes, Edozie Mmadu placed second, third, and fourth, respectively.

Following his triumph, Ukachukwu stated: “We shall deliver Anambra to the APC. One thing I want to say here, nobody has won the governorship of Anambra without my support; it has never happened before.

“I have been playing godfatherism, but now I want to be the father of the father, no more godfather.”
