Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has disclosed the type of message he usually gives captain Lionel Messi during the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
Scaloni left Messi on the bench as Argentina secured a 3-1 victory over Jordan in their final group-stage fixture over the weekend.
The Inter Miami star was later introduced in the second half and went on to score Argentina’s third goal against Jordan.
Speaking after the encounter, Scaloni was asked about the instructions he gives Messi before bringing him into matches.
Responding to the question, the Argentine coach said, “I just tell him, ‘go win the game’ (laughs).
“No, what else can I tell him? Are you really asking me this question? He’s the only one who doesn’t need any instructions at all.
“Seriously, you’re asking me if I should tell him, ‘run this way’ or ‘handle that ball like this’? That’s ridiculous,” he said.
Scaloni’s remarks highlighted the level of trust and confidence he has in Messi, who continues to play a crucial role for the reigning world champions despite being used selectively during the tournament.
Messi’s goal against Jordan further underlined his importance to Argentina as the South American giants prepare for the knockout stages of the competition.
The Argentine captain remains one of the key figures in the World Cup, with fans and teammates continuing to rely on his experience and match-winning abilities.
