Army Chief Awards N500,000 Scholarship to Student.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has awarded a N500,000 scholarship to Mariam Olayiwola, a first-year physiology student at the Lagos State University. This award is part of the COAS Special Scholarship Scheme for Indigent Students, launched in 2024 by the late COAS, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Farouk Mijinyawa, presented the scholarship to Mariam on behalf of the COAS. Maj.-Gen. Mijinyawa congratulated Mariam on her hard work and academic achievements, saying, “I encourage you to continue to work hard for more accolades. Your performance will serve as an inspiration to your peers and siblings.”

The COAS Special Scholarship Scheme aims to support deserving students like Mariam in achieving their academic goals. The scholarship will cover Mariam’s tuition fees and other expenses, easing the financial burden on her family.

The Nigerian Army’s initiative is part of its vision to foster educational development and contribute positively to society. By empowering young individuals like Mariam, the army is demonstrating its commitment to supporting education and community welfare.
