The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports regarding the death of Corporal Ude Jude in Katsina State, labeling them as misleading and inaccurate.

In a statement issued on April 12, the Headquarters 17 Brigade clarified that the deceased was a corporal, not a lieutenant, as was reported by some media outlets.

The army confirmed that Ude, who joined the military in 2012, was from Ezeagu Local Government Area in Enugu State.

According to the statement, the incident leading to his death did not occur within the barracks. The Army explained that Ude sustained injuries on February 16 while deployed at a Forward Operating Base in Funtua, Katsina State.

It was revealed that Ude had left his duty post to buy personal items when he was attacked by unknown individuals.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the injuries may have been the result of a physical altercation with a civilian.

The attackers reportedly fled the scene, and the injured soldier received help from residents before being transported to a medical facility.

The army stated that he was treated and later evacuated to the 17 Brigade Medical Centre, where he remained under supervision for stab wounds and related injuries.

The army added that Ude returned home after treatment but collapsed outside his residence on March 24, and was confirmed dead on arrival at the medical centre.

The army strongly refuted claims of negligence, stating that proper medical care and support had been provided.

Additionally, it confirmed that arrangements for his burial had been made, with military honours and his personal effects handed over to his family.

The army also stated that investigations are ongoing to identify the individuals responsible for the attack and urged the public to disregard unverified reports.
