In 2023, a man named Nasiru Gwallaga was convicted of setting fire to a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) patrol car in Bara village, Kirfi Local Government Area, Bauchi State.
In an interview with reporters on Friday, Istifanus Ibrahim, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in the state, revealed the development. He said the prisoner was ordered to pay the FRSC in the state N150 million, which is the worth of the burned-out car.
He said that Gwallaga and two other accomplices were also found guilty of conspiracy to commit obstruction, assault of public officers while on duty, and obstruction of civil servants, and were given a year in prison or a N15,000 fine, respectively.
He clarified that on June 23, 2025, Justice Safiya Doma found the three guilty and sentenced them in the Chief Magistrate Court in Fadama Mada, Bauchi State.
The head of the FRSC also stated that Gwallaga was ordered to pay N170,000 for destroying a Samsung Galaxy phone that belonged to the Acting Unit Commander (UC) at the time and was found guilty of causing physical harm to FRSC employees.
“All the convicts were ordered to pay N50,000, representing the cost spent in prosecuting the case by the nominal complainant.
“The Judge ruled that they have a right of appeal to the High Court of Justice within 30 days of the judgment.
“This will serve as a deterrent to those who take the law into their own hands.
“Members of the motoring public are advised to be law-abiding as we are not enemies, but compatriots on the road to save lives and property,” said the Sector Commander.
