Former senator Shehu Sani has said that the recent coalition efforts by opposition figures and their criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration are not motivated by a sincere desire to serve the public.
Sani took aim at moves by political heavyweights including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to form an alliance against the current government in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on The Morning Brief program on Channels Television Wednesday, Sani argued that these efforts are rooted more in personal grievances, failed ambitions, and exclusion from political relevance than in any real commitment to national progress.
He pointed out that many of those now in opposition were once major players in the very political system they now criticize.
“When you have a group of disgruntled elements who are frustrated and come together, it’s not about the country or the people, it is simply about being excluded from the system,” he stated.
Sani also rejected the notion that any substantial ideological divide exists between the ruling party and the opposition, asserting that both sides come from the same political class and share similar interests.
“It’s not that they are now Marxists or trade unionists confronting a capitalist order they’re all from the same bourgeois political class.
“They use every opportunity to weaponise our challenges and present themselves as a better alternative, but many of them have been in power since 1999.”
