Atiku reveals why he is worried about the 2027 presidential election

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed doubts about the ability of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct the 2027 general elections fairly.

Atiku made the statement on Friday while answering questions during an interview with BBC Hausa.

The former Vice President alleged that the electoral commission is being influenced by the Federal Government led by the All Progressives Congress, APC.

According to him, the alleged influence has made him uncertain that INEC would act independently during next year’s election.

“I am not confident that INEC will do what is right because it is under the influence of the current government.

“That is why we are urging Nigerians to come out in large numbers, cast their votes, protect their votes, and ensure that their votes count,” he said.

Atiku also spoke about the G-100 political arrangement, dismissing claims that he was the principal factor responsible for the challenges facing the coalition.

The ADC candidate’s comments come as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election and stakeholders continue to debate the credibility and independence of the electoral process.

“That allegation is baseless. I, Atiku Abubakar, was among those who initiated the coalition, and many of those who started this journey with me are still part of it today,” he added.
