Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has revealed that efforts are underway to form a powerful and unified opposition alliance.

Atiku stated that the purpose of this alliance is to confront the perceived overreach of President Bola Tinubu’s government.

In a post shared on his Facebook account, Atiku expressed confidence that the alliance would play a pivotal role in redirecting Nigeria toward a better path.

The ex-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emphasized that the coalition would uphold democratic values by ensuring that citizens are allowed to choose their leaders without interference.

He wrote: “We are building a strong, united opposition coalition — one that will challenge the excesses of this administration, restore accountability, and return government to the people.

“We will protect the right of every Nigerian to freely choose their leaders, and we will continue to fight for economic justice, political freedom, and national progress.

“We are here to rescue Nigeria. And we will not stop until that goal is achieved.”

Atiku is working alongside notable political figures such as Peter Obi, former presidential hopeful from the Labour Party; Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State; Rotimi Amaechi, ex-governor of Rivers State; and others in leading this opposition movement.

Just a few weeks back, Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai, and several other influential figures from various opposition parties convened for strategic discussions.

Commenting on the outcome, El-Rufai remarked that the coalition’s objective is to prevent Tinubu from securing a second term in 2027.

A leader within the Social Democratic Party added that the alliance intends to bring Tinubu back to Lagos in 2027.
