Attorney-General Denies Involvement In Fraud Amid Suspension

The suspended Edo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Samson Osagie, has denied any involvement in financial misconduct.

Osagie issued the denial in a statement responding to his suspension by the State Governor, Monday Okpebholo.

Vowing to prove his innocence, Osagie stated that he has never been involved in any financial dealings with anyone, nor has he committed any financial infraction.

The statement reads in part: “My attention has just been drawn to a Government special announcement dated 5th February, 2025 in which I was alleged to have been engaged in financial infractions with the Chairman of the Local Government service commission and therefore suspended.

“Let me state unequivocally that I am not and was never involved in any financial dealing with anyone nor committed any financial infraction of any kind.

“I was also not confronted with the said allegations by anyone before my suspension was announced.”

“I shall be ready, willing, and prepared to defend myself and prove my innocence in order to clear my name and hard earned reputation, which I have laboured to build over the years”, he said.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice was suspended alongside Hon. Damian Lawani, Chairman of the Edo State Local Government Service Commission, over allegations of serious official and financial misconduct.

A statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, confirmed that the suspension is effective immediately.

The State Governor ordered the formation of an Investigative Committee to look into the allegations against the two officials and provide appropriate recommendations.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the suspension of the appointees was necessary to allow for a thorough investigation into the financial misconduct allegations.

Both officials are to remain suspended until the investigation is concluded.

Governor Okpebholo had previously suspended Mr. Ahmed Musa Momoh, Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the State Flood Erosion and Watershed Management Agency (FEWMA), on January 25, 2025, over alleged insubordination. The FEWMA boss was suspended following a controversial turbaning ceremony and the appointment of Chiefs and Village Heads by the Aidenogie of South-Ibie kingdom, a ceremony that the governor had reportedly suspended.
