Bandits retreat after gun duel with police in Benue community

On Sunday, security personnel in Benue State stopped an armed bandit attack on the hamlet of Ukohol, which is located in the Guma Local Government Area’s Yelewata region.

Security reports state that after one of their members was arrested the day before, the attackers invaded the village in what is thought to be a retaliation strike.

A joint response team comprising the Special Intervention Squad, SIS, Police Mobile Force, PMF, Operation Zenda, and the Counter Terrorism Unit, CTU, was reportedly coordinated by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Daudu. They confronted the criminals in a furious gunfight together.

The security forces’ superior firepower eventually forced the robbers to retreat.

Authorities said that everybody but one person who was trapped during the event was successfully evacuated and unharmed.

A search and rescue effort, including bush combing, has been initiated in the region to find the escaping attackers and retrieve the missing person, according to police sources.
