Despite the continuous security issues in some areas of the state and northern Nigeria, Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has guaranteed the protection of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) participants stationed in the state.
Speaking on Friday, the governor underlined that his administration is collaborating closely with security authorities to ensure that corps members have a safe environment during their service year through Terkimbi Ikyange, Commissioner for Youth, Sports Development, and Creativity.
“While our nation continues to grapple with serious security concerns, Benue State is no exception. However, I want to assure you that we are taking your safety seriously,” Alia said.
“We have implemented comprehensive protective measures in collaboration with all relevant security outfits to safeguard corps members’ lodges and areas of deployment.”
As a means of achieving prosperity and independence, Governor Alia also encouraged the just enlisted corps members to fully utilize the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, or SAED, program.
He urged them to use their skills to make a significant contribution to the advancement of the country, stating, “The gifts and abilities that brought you this far are the same ones that will shape the future of our country.”
Mrs. Veronica Garba, the NYSC State Coordinator, also spoke at the ceremony and thanked the state government and the people of Benue for their ongoing support. She urged corps members to participate completely in the orientation course’s four main components: skills training, intellectual growth, leisure activities, and physical conditioning.
The swearing-in of 1,600 corps members, conducted by Justice Peter Ukande on behalf of Chief Judge Maurice Ikpambeae of Benue State, marked the official start of the orientation session.
