Eight suspects have been arrested by the Gombe State Police Command in relation to the kidnapping and horrific murder of Muhammad Ibrahim Bulama, a six-year-old boy, in Bura-Bunga village, Bojude District, Kwami Local Government Area.

According to reports, the suspects admitted that they killed the child as part of a ritual to “make money.”

This was revealed in a news release released on Friday by DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the Command.

He claimed that the suspects planned to kidnap and kill the boy before mutilating his body to extract components for a ritual involving money.

“This tragic and deeply disturbing criminal case involves the alleged abduction and gruesome killing of a six-year-old boy… by eight suspects, where the suspects confessed to have committed this heinous act for money making purpose,” DSP Abdullahi stated.

His grandpa, Ibrahim Bulama, noticed the victim had not returned home and reported him missing in the middle of February. Until Bulama filed an official report at the Bojude Divisional Police Headquarters on April 18, his disappearance remained unsolved. Initially, two suspects were taken into custody and turned over to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for additional examination.

The squad deduced the specifics of the terrifying crime by apprehending six more suspects based on reliable intelligence.

Magaji Adamu, 45, admitted to taking the boy from Babayo Musa, 18.

In the bush next to Wuro-Doya, he confessed to killing the child with a knife and slicing the body in two.

While the lower part was given to two other suspects, Jibrin Muhammad (alias Ya’Haji) and Usman Abubakar, the upper portion was disposed of in a well.

Babayo Musa acknowledged that he took the boy from his grandfather’s home at approximately 5:30 p.m. and took part in the murder.

In addition to confessing to obtaining the lower half of the child’s body from Magaji and an accomplice named Gimba—who is currently at large—Jibrin and Usman were detained in the city of Gombe.

Other conspirators’ roles were discovered through more inquiry. While traditional healers Idris Dayyabu and Abdulrauf Hussaini acknowledged requesting human parts for ritual purposes, Sadam Umaru allegedly connected the group to native doctors. According to reports, they removed the child’s lower body, cut off the flesh, and buried the remains.

Isiyaku Muhammad, another suspect, was arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy and concealment. The police claim that he was fully aware of the murder but chose not to report it.

The suspected mastermind, a man named Gimba, was recognized by the Command and is still at large. He is thought to have been the mastermind behind the ceremonial killing and the slain boy’s unmarried father.

The Gombe State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, responded to the incident by denouncing the act and promising the public that everyone involved will be subject to the full force of the law.

“We are committed to ensuring that this gruesome crime is thoroughly investigated and that justice is served. No stone will be left unturned in tracking down everyone connected to this evil,” the Commissioner stated.

Additionally, he exhorted Gombe State citizens to exercise caution and notify law enforcement of any suspicious activities. “We rely on the public to support our efforts in combating crime. Timely and credible information can save lives and prevent tragedies like this,” he added.

The Command underlined its determination to eradicate criminal syndicates endangering the state’s peace as well as to defend people and property.
