Bashir Ahmed, who previously served as a media aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari (who has since passed away), expressed worry over the idea of pardoning bandits in Nigeria.
Ahmad reacted to the murder of 15 members of a vigilante group in Katsina State by “repentant bandits.”
On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the vigilante group on patrol intercepted and neutralized three suspected bandits in Falale village, located within the Jibia Local Government Area of the state.
As revenge, armed robbers are said to have assaulted the village and murdered 15 individuals.
Bashir Ahmed, in a post on X, reacted to the incident by asserting that bandits pretend to repent solely to escape justice.
He wrote: “I just read a disturbing report that repentant bandits killed 18 members of a vigilante group during an encounter in the Jibia Local Government of Katsina.
“This reinforces the genuine concern that many who claim repentance do so only as an opportunity to evade justice.”
Katsina and other North-West states experiencing severe insecurity had earlier offered pardons to remorseful bandits following peace talks.
