Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has attributed the state’s deep-rooted poverty and lack of progress to the actions of his predecessors, including former governors George Akume and Samuel Ortom.

During his first media interaction with journalists, Alia highlighted the difficulties his government inherited upon taking office.

He emphasized that years of financial mismanagement, widespread corruption, and ineffective leadership had severely hindered the state’s growth.

According to him, past administrations left behind a troubled financial system, including the presence of ghost workers and widespread infrastructural neglect.

“Previous administrations deliberately sought to leave Benue State in a state of perpetual poverty. This has been a source of great concern, as the widespread impact of such actions severely hindered the state’s progress,” he said.

The governor expressed his commitment to tackling this issue head-on, promising to clean up the civil service and ensure that funds are allocated to genuine development projects.
