Biafra Day: Total lockdown in Imo as residents observe sit-at-home order

Imo State was placed under complete lockdown in observance of the Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) sit-at-home directive on May 30, Biafra Day.

This is true even when the police have guaranteed sufficient security.

According to ZINGTIE, several government buildings were closed.

Along with businesses, schools and other public spaces were shuttered.

Upon visiting a few government buildings, it appeared that nothing was happening there—the only people moving about the premises were security guards.

The State Secretariat, the House of Assembly Complex, the Secretary to the State Government’s office, the Extension of the State Secretariat, and the Government House Roundabout were among the locations our correspondent visited.

Young people were observed playing football on a few main thoroughfares in the state capital of Owerri.

Still, there was a skeleton movement of people and cars in the capital.

The state’s citizens were previously asked by the State Police Command to disregard the sit-at-home directive and carry on with their lawful activities, emphasising that security forces are prepared to uphold law and order.
