The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that five individuals lost their lives following the detonation of a military-grade explosive within the state.

The tragic event took place on Saturday at a scrap collection facility located along the Eastern Bypass.

Authorities revealed that the explosion involved a vehicle that had reportedly originated from Yobe State.

Addressing journalists, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori said he received an emergency alert about the blast and proceeded to the scene immediately.

“It was a military EOD personnel. It was a military model bomb that exploded. 15 people were injured, and taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.”

According to him, upon arriving at the hospital, it was confirmed that five victims had died, while ten others were undergoing medical treatment.

Initial findings suggest that the truck carrying the explosive materials came from Yobe State. While the investigation is still ongoing, the Commissioner stated he was briefed that the vehicle transporting the device was indeed from Yobe.

CP Bakori assured that further updates would be provided as more facts emerge from the investigation.
