Thousands of people in Ibadan, Oyo State, are currently demonstrating against the state government’s purported plans to purchase additional land for the Ibadan circular road corridor.
Some of the city’s main thoroughfares have been blocked by locals.
According to ZINGTIE, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, the current Olubadan of Ibadanland, came up with the concept for the Ibadan circular road while serving as the state’s governor.
It was discovered that Ladoja had set aside 150 meters for the road’s construction. However, the current governor, Seyi Makinde, intends to increase the circular road corridor’s length, which will impact additional homes and communal areas.
According to our correspondent, the people of Ido, Lagelu, Ona Ara, Akinyele, Oluyole, and Egbeda who are protesting want the state government to keep the 150 meters that Ladoja has already defined.
One of the main thoroughfares in Ibadan, Iwo Road, is currently blocked by the demonstrators.
There is a severe traffic gridlock in the region due to the road blockage.
Additionally, there is a group of demonstrators near the Agodi government secretariat’s entrance.
The locals armed themselves with various banners.
