President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a State of Emergency for Rivers State has been ratified by the Nigerian Senate.

A six-month suspension of Governor Sim Fubara, his deputy, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly was also confirmed by the upper legislative chamber.

This follows a meeting where the MPs discussed the issue behind closed doors.

According to ZINGTIE, the State of Emergency was already passed by voice votes in the House of Representatives.

A number of stakeholders condemned President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, which sparked controversy.

The emergency rule in Rivers State was approved by both legislative chambers on Thursday, despite the outcry.
