A bill put out by Republican Andy Ogles, a member of the US House of Representatives, would allow Donald Trump, the country’s 47th president, to seek reelection for a third term.

The action was taken on Thursday, January 23, by the Republican lawmaker. As of right now, the US Constitution prohibits anyone from being elected to the position of number one citizen more than twice.

Is Trump eligible to run for a third term?

Nonetheless, the resolution proposed by the member aimed to amend the constitution to state that “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times ….”

The legislator defended the bill, saying that Trump has shown himself to be the only person in “modern history” who can turn around America’s decay and bring it back to its former glory. He therefore need the time required to complete the task.

He insisted that it was crucial to give Trump all the tools he needed to change the “disastrous course set by the Biden administration,” according to Fox News.

According to Ogles, Trump is committed to saving and rebuilding the United States. He called on governors and other parliamentarians to assist the current administration in whatever way they could.

According to him, his plan was to change the Constitution and open the door for a modification of the 22nd Amendment’s restriction on the length of the presidency.

Does Trump want to serve a third term?

The US president has already denied rumours that he might run for a third term. However, in a conversation with Republican lawmakers after winning the November 2024 presidential election, Trump made a suggestion that he would consider running for a third term.

He said: “I suspect I won’t be running again unless you do something”.

Ogles defended Trump by highlighting the more than 200 executive actions he made on his first day in office. He mentioned his strategy on the southern border, which limited gender identity rules to energy production for men and women, as well as the decision to withdraw the US from the World Health Organisation.
