Jimin Geoffrey, former Senior Special Assistant on Media to ex-Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, has condemned the ongoing and unprovoked assaults on residents of Benue by armed Fulani herdsmen.

Speaking on the issue, Jimin expressed disappointment that despite President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to the state following the deadly attack in Yelwata, located in Guma Local Government Area, the violent acts have persisted.

A native of Guma, Jimin recounted that on Saturday, June 21, 2025, four individuals were killed in separate incidents in both Makurdi and Guma. The affected locations included Tse Ati, Uda Yagba, and Tse-Kator in Guma LGA.

He also revealed that on Sunday, June 19, 2025, four Mobile Police officers were brutally killed by assailants in Udei, also within Guma Local Government Area.

Likewise, on July 2nd, attackers stormed Kwaghgba village, leaving at least three residents dead.

Another deadly incident occurred on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, in Ukohol village, Guma, where three more people lost their lives during a fresh assault by the armed group.

According to Jimin, the violence continued into the following day—Friday, July 4th—when the militia struck again in Tse-Anundu, Udei. One man, Mr. Nomsoor Anundu, was killed, while two others “were shot and are being treated”.

President Tinubu, during his June 18, 2025, visit, had instructed the Chief of Defense Staff and the Inspector General of Police to “get those criminals out.”

He also ordered the heads of the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the State Security Service (SSS) to strengthen their intelligence systems so as to gather “tangible intelligence that this will not occur again.”

Despite these directives, sources indicate that the security conditions in Guma and surrounding areas remain unchanged.

“The terrorists have occupied our deserted farmlands and homes from where they go out to harvest any life that dares go to the backyard for farming activities.

“With the ease which the terrorists operate and go back unchallenged, I am afraid another massacre may be lurking around the corner in Benue.

“I wish to state unequivocally that the “Renewed Hope” Mr President promised Nigerians during the electioneering campaigns, for us in Benue, what has reached us is RECURRENT DEATHS.

“We die everyday, everywhere and anytime it pleases our harvesters who planted us in this part of the world. Security agents who are deployed to secure us are not spared from the killing spree.

“Numerous persons, including children who survived various attacks are still being treated in different hospitals even as the gun wielding terrorists continue to make frantic efforts to attack more villages in Benue unchecked”, he said.
