Chelsea close in on new manager after key meeting

Chelsea FC have reportedly held a meeting with former Spain midfielder, Xabi Alonso, as the club continues its search for a new manager.

Alonso is said to be among the coaches being considered for the position.

Others reportedly on Chelsea’s shortlist include Andoni Iraola of AFC Bournemouth and Oliver Glasner of Crystal Palace.

Chelsea are said to be keen on appointing a new manager before the 2026 FIFA World Cup begins in North America next month.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano wrote on X: “Chelsea have had a direct meeting with Xabi Alonso and final decision is expected very soon.

“CFC plan to announce their next manager before the World Cup, talks are accelerating.

“Chelsea also spoke to Iraola, Glasner and Marco Silva as part of their list.”
