Dr. Ayuba Asheshe, General Secretary of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), has reaffirmed that there is unquestionable proof that Christian genocide occurs in Nigeria.

He bemoaned the fact that thousands of Christians have been slain in Nigeria, 19,100 churches have been destroyed, and 600 pastors have been kidnapped.

Asheshe informed reporters in Jos that records indicated that 1,200 churches were burned and demolished each year, roughly 100 per month, or three every day, for a total of 19,100 churches over a 16-year period.

More than 600 clerics, including 250 Catholic priests and 350 pastors, have been kidnapped and assassinated in various parts of the nation, he continued.

Additionally, according to data from Open Doors USA, 82% of Christians slain globally between October 2022 and September 2023 were Nigerians, and over 3.5 million Christians were displaced after their houses and churches were destroyed by fire.

According to reports from the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED), there have been numerous Christian deaths in Nigeria during the last 20 years as well as within ECWA.

He claimed that between 2023 and 2024, 208 members of ECWA alone were kidnapped; several of them died while in captivity.

He urged the government to take more action to stop the nation’s ongoing attacks, church burnings, and Christian murders.

He praised the Federal Government’s recent initiatives to fortify Nigeria’s security framework.

He claimed that even if the measures were still in their early phases, they showed a praiseworthy turn toward preserving justice, safeguarding the sanctity of human life, and reestablishing trust in the state’s ability to protect its inhabitants.
