The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, stated on Saturday that Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, might run for president in 2027 on the Labour Party’s (LP) ticket.

Speaking at a gathering in Abuja, Tanko claimed that Obi declared he will run for president under the LP “for now.”

Tanko reassured ZINGTIE that Obi remains a member of the Labour Party.

He said: “He spoke at a coffee party in Abuja where he was asked if he will still run under the Labour Party and he said he’s still a member and will run under the party ‘for now,’ he put it under a caveat for now.”

Obi made this announcement while reaffirming that he is still an LP member and will continue to run on the party’s platform.

Obi is now working to put together an alliance that would overthrow President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and other opposition figures are leading the opposition coalition.

In an effort to give birth to the coalition, the three and other interested parties convened Tuesday evening to finalize the arrangements for the group’s formal unveiling.
