The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Dr. Peter Odey, encountered a surge of requests during his official visit to Bekwara Local Government Area as part of his ongoing tour of the state’s northern region.
Among the most pressing appeals were the repair of local roads, provision of clean drinking water, improved electricity access, and increased job opportunities for residents.
Community members expressed frustration over being neglected compared to areas in the southern part of the state.
His visit happened to align with the celebration of the New Yam Festival in Bekwara.
Chief Omang Idiege, the Ada Bekwarra, voiced the community’s concerns directly to the deputy governor.
In response, Dr. Odey acknowledged the strong community presence and assured them that the government was fully aware of their struggles.
He urged residents to safeguard the power transformers once they are delivered to the area.
He also revealed that several urban road projects have been approved and will begin shortly, adding that the state government has already completed rehabilitation work on the Ogoja–Katsina-Ala federal highway.
