Since the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration, or CVR, campaign started on August 18, more than 2.5 million Nigerians have finished their online voter pre-registration, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.

Mr. Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, provided an update on the online and in-person registration process following Tuesday’s regular meeting in Abuja.

Olumekun added that within five days, a minimum of 72,274 citizens took part in the in-person registration.

He praised the enthusiastic reaction of the populace as well as the work of the organizations that had encouraged civic engagement in the exercise.

“The cumulative figure at the end of week two shows that 1,218,482 (48.12 per cent) are male and 1,313,580 (51.88 per cent) are female.

“In terms of age and occupation, the majority – 1,602,484 (63.29 per cent) are between the ages of 18 and 34, while 647,528 (25.57 per cent) are students,” he said.

According to Olumekun, as of Friday, August 29, 72,274 citizens had either finished the pre-registration process or re-registered within five days for the in-person registration that started on August 25.

He pointed out that 36,652 (50.71%) of the total were female, and 35,622 (49.29%) were male.
