Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has paid homage to his late son, Ifeanyi, nearly three years after the heartbreaking loss.
In a touching message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Davido wrote, “Ifeanyi David Adedeji Adeleke RIP LEGEND !!”
Ifeanyi tragically passed away on October 31, 2022, following a swimming pool accident at the family home in Banana Island, Lagos.
The Lagos State Police reported that both Davido and Ifeanyi’s mother, Chioma Rowland, were not present at the residence when the incident occurred.
Authorities confirmed the death, with an autopsy revealing drowning as the cause. Eight domestic staff members were questioned, and two remain under investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
In the aftermath, many Nigerians and celebrities, including Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, rapper Bia, Meek Mill, and footballer Victor Moses, expressed their condolences and solidarity with Davido and his family.
They acknowledged that the loss of a child is an unimaginable grief no parent should face.
Following the tragedy, Davido took some time away from the spotlight before making a comeback with the release of his 2023 album, Timeless.
That same year, the singer and his wife, Chioma, welcomed twins born in the United States.
