Delta Govt reveals why it can’t implement new minimum wage now

The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has stated that the state government is waiting on the federal government to provide a blueprint before enacting the new minimum wage.

During a Tuesday thanksgiving service in Asaba, the governor made this declaration in honour of his Principal Secretary, Mrs. Lyna Ocholor, who retired from the civil service. Ocholor worked as the state House of Assembly’s clerk as well.

According to Oborevwori, the state wants to avoid making mistakes while calculating the subsequent adjustment for the new minimum wage.

During his term as Speaker of the Sixth and Seventh Assemblies, he (Oborevwori) expressed gratitude to the state Assembly personnel for their assistance.

“We are waiting for the chart of the new minimum wage because we don’t want to make any mistakes,” he said.

While congratulating Mrs Ocholor on her successful retirement from civil service, the governor noted that the staff of the Assembly never went on strike throughout his time as Speaker of the Assembly.

“I am very happy to be in your midst today. It is also an opportunity to appreciate the staff of this Assembly.

“I remember on the 11th of May, 2017, when I took over as Mr Speaker, it was tough, but the good thing is that none of the staff went on strike for the six years I was Speaker.

“What I want to say is that anywhere you are working, be good. Anything you are doing, be good. As a civil or public servant, you must do what you will be remembered for,” the governor said.

In her remark, Mrs. Ocholor expressed her gratitude to Governor Oborevwori and the State Assembly personnel for their support throughout her time serving as the House Clerk.

She claimed that without their help and collaboration, she would not have been able to succeed.
