On Saturday, a small-scale theatrical performance in Umuahia occurred when Abia State Governor Alex Otti barged into the former Senate President Adolphus Wabara’s 76th birthday celebration and magnificent reception.
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, was in charge of organising the event. Otti is an LP (Labour Party) member.
While Umar Damagun, the PDP’s acting national chairman, was speaking, the governor arrived at the function. Also in attendance were the PDP governors of Oyo, Seyi Makinde, Edo, Godwin Obaseki, and Bauchi, Peter Mbah, and Oyu, Peter Mbah.
The enormous audience went wild when Otti arrived, with some PDP members praising him and others expressing shock at his presence.
It was also observed that a few PDP members were taken aback by the fact that Okezie Ikpeazu, the governor of Abia till recently, did not show up for the party’s gala reception hosted by the BoT chairman.
During the ceremony, Otti addressed the PDP members, asserting that he is the governor of all Abia people, regardless of their political affiliation, since he believes that all elections and legal disputes have been resolved.
He apologised for reports that some people had sent texts saying it was unsafe to visit Abia.
Otti called the celebrant Wabara a good man but also commended the PDP governors for rejecting the “fake security alert” to be in Abia.
In his speech, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State lamented that the PDP was reduced to only one South-East state but urged party members to fight to win back the states they had lost.
