The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Faisal Abdulrasheed Maina, the fugitive son of former Pension Reform Task Team chairman Abdulrasheed Maina, and transferred him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Security sources cited by Zagazola Makama disclosed that DSS operatives apprehended Faisal in the Karsana area of Abuja after he allegedly returned to Nigeria without public knowledge.

“His arrest followed credible intelligence which indicated that Faisal had secretly returned to the country,” a security source said.

Faisal had reportedly evaded authorities since 2020, when he was being prosecuted by the EFCC over a three-count charge involving money laundering and conspiracy.

He was accused of breaching his bail conditions and leaving Nigeria while his trial was still in progress.

Despite his absence, the court proceeded with the trial and convicted him in 2021, sentencing him to 14 years in prison. The judgment was delivered by Justice Okon Abang.

The court subsequently directed security agencies to arrest Faisal wherever he was found within Nigeria and commit him to a correctional facility to serve his sentence.

It also ordered the Federal Government to take the necessary legal steps to secure his extradition if he was located outside the country.

“The handover of Faisal to the EFCC is expected to facilitate the enforcement of the court’s judgment and ensure that he serves his sentence in accordance with the law,” another security source said.

The transfer is expected to enable the EFCC to implement the court’s judgment and ensure that Faisal serves the prison term imposed on him.
